Short version: BidScreen stores your API key and business profile locally on your device only. The only external call it makes is to the Google Gemini API to analyse tender text. Nothing else leaves your browser.
What data BidScreen collects
BidScreen collects two types of data when you use the extension:
- Gemini API key — the API key you provide to connect to Google’s Gemini AI service
- Business profile — your business name, core services, insurance levels, turnover range, certifications, and geographic reach, entered voluntarily in the settings page
BidScreen also temporarily reads the text content of the active browser tab (the tender page) in order to analyse it. This content is not stored after the analysis completes.
Where your data is stored
Your API key and business profile are stored exclusively in chrome.storage.local — Chrome’s secure, device-local storage. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is never transmitted to BidScreen’s servers
- Is never shared with any third party other than Google (for the Gemini API call — see below)
- Can be deleted at any time by removing the extension or clearing extension storage in Chrome settings
What is sent to third parties
When you run a screen, BidScreen sends the following directly from your browser to the Google Gemini API:
- The text content of the tender page you are viewing (truncated to 15,000 characters)
- Your business profile (to enable personalised matching)
- Your Gemini API key (as the authentication credential for the API call)
This call goes directly from your browser to Google’s API — it does not pass through BidScreen’s infrastructure. Your use of the Gemini API is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
Data we do not collect
BidScreen does not:
- Collect analytics or usage telemetry
- Use cookies
- Track which tenders you screen or how often you use the extension
- Sell, rent, or share your data with any third party beyond the Gemini API call described above
- Store any data on external servers
Your rights
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it at all times. To delete all BidScreen data, remove the extension from Chrome or use Chrome’s extension storage management tools.
